Promotional
Promotional modeling covers a wide range of work for a promo girl including being on stands at exhibitions, handing out leaflets, or even being a ‘GridGirl’ which is where you are booked at car or bike races. By now you should have realized that good looks are essential, however not the same kind of looks as for fashion models. The needs of clients that book promo models for this kind of work are completely different from a magazine client for example that want a model who looks good in a beauty advertorial.
Promo Model Traits
A promo girl must be able to look good for long days without the help of makeup artists and retouching! A promo model must be almost ‘conventionally’ good looking, i.e. the general public would consider the promo model to be attractive or even gorgeous as opposed to the looks of some fashion models which can be more of an acquired taste and sometimes downright weird! The aim of most clients that hire a promo model is to promote a healthy, successful and friendly image from their promotional models thus attracting the right kind of attention to their firm.
A personable manner is essential as promotional models must be able to mix with people without nerves. Also, good manners and a clear speech pattern are credited as it is vital that a promo model represents a company professionally at all times. Some firms such as computer companies will be very impressed to have a promo girl that has a good understanding of their products and can offer on going work as it can be difficult for them to find such people. Often training is provided (and paid for) to help to enhance the success of a promo model.
Looks aren’t all for Promotional Modeling
Overall, there are many ways in which a promo girl can help herself to be as marketable as possible, as looks are not the total package with this kind of modeling.
Even more than other types of modeling, being on time (or early), not dragging out lunchtimes and not being difficult and stroppy will really count in your favour.
Promotional Modeling - The Cash
The one bad thing about being a promo model as opposed to being a fashion model is that you should not expect to make a fortune! However, you may find that if you work with the better agencies then you can get paid a reasonable amount of money. As with all other types of modeling don’t fall for the bait of agents or clients leading you down the garden path.
